Drashi Lhamo’s Present

Carried forward by stories of devotees who suddenly became rich, Drashi Lhamo’s popularity has surged since the year 2000. This has been a two-fold development. On one hand she has seen her enshrinement in further temples in China outside of Lhasa, whilst in the USA, a student from Asia offered His Holiness Living Buddha Lian Sheng her statue, a seemingly small event which has caused a global surge in her practice. In this section, we will take a look through these two threads that have developed independently.

Drashi Lhamo Spreads In The Gelug Sect

The Gelug sect has undergone significant changes since the Chinese liberation of Tibet. Most notable is the Dorje Shugden issue.

Originally a minor worldly protector adopted from the Sakya sect, his responsiveness made him a very popular deity for lay Gelug disciples who needed help with monetary matters, improving their luck and other such worldly matters from the 1930s onwards.

However some ordained Gelugs sought to use him to increase the dominance of the Gelug sect, even though it meant replacing supramundane protectors like Mahakala, Yamantaka and Palden Lhamo that were established as the core of Gelug practice by Lama Tsongkhapa.

The Ganden Tripa and the 13th Dalai Lama both refuted this development as improper, and the 14th Dalai Lama went on to restrict Dorje Shugden practice to those wishing to do so privately only. This aroused some strong feelings both for and against, hence the controversy.

Whilst many maintain that the problem is primarily one of humans and not caused by Dorje Shugden, many Tibetans have aligned themselves with the Dalai Lama and ceased his practices.

There are other wealth deities, like the Five Jambhalas, that exist in Tibetan Tantrayana, but these are not widely taught outside of monastic settings, especially not the key cultivation formulas for getting responses.

With the sudden gap in deities to turn to for worldly needs, many Gelugs, especially lay disciples, turned to Drashi Lhamo. Initially in Lhasa, many taxi drivers and market traders started attending the Drashi Temple and from there, her popularity has surged.

Falun Temple, Shenyang, China

In 2011, the Huguo Falun Temple in Shenyang, China, had a delegation from the Drashi Temple in Lhasa bring her there. She has her own pagoda in the North of this grand temple complex that first began religious use in 1632.

During that early Qing dynasty period, the Gelug sect was very much in favour with the ruling elites of China. Correspondingly, this temple is a stunning combination of classic Buddhist temple layouts with courtyards, the Mahavira Hall, towers, and a distinctive white stupa of the sort common to Vajrayana Buddhism, but rarely seen in Chinese Mahayana Buddhist temples.

Currently under the guidance of the 4th Xiaba Living Buddha, the temple also has shrines to other deities associated with wealth including Palden Lhamo, Vaisravana and the Four Great Deva Kings in addition to enshrining many buddhas and bodhisattvas.

The temple’s website is in Chinese only but you can see many photos and videos, including the Drashi Lhamo Pagoda on their Baidu entry including this video which features a few glimpses of her. There is a further walking tour of the temple grounds here; sadly the cameraman didn’t think to enter her shrine but it gives a good feel for the well preserved classical architecture of the temple and takes a look into some of the bigger shrine halls there.

The temple has daily ceremonial services performed there. Visitors are welcomed.

Fuyu Zhengjie Temple, Daqing, China

Also in 2011, the delegation of four high lamas from Lhasa’s Drashi Gon Temple brought Drashi’s “true body” to another grand and historic temple that dates back to the 1600s and the Qing dynasty. Fuyu Zhengjie Temple is in the far North Eastern Dorbod Mongol Autonomous County, near Daqing, in Heilongjiang province, China. Going diagonally across China, this is almost as far as you can get from Lhasa without crossing the border!

This temple is also under the guidance of the 4th Xiaba Rinpoche, the abbot of both this and Falun Temple.

Like Falun Temple, it doesn’t promote itself in English language but in Chinese there are many photos and videos of this very grand temple of classical design. Here’s a rare English subtitled video.

It definitely looks like it costs a lot to make and maintain a temple like that! Drashi must be gracing them. This temple is also both a functioning temple and an attraction, so visitors are welcome.

Drashi Lhamo has been enshrined in several other temples as her popularity amongst Gelugs increases. Moreover, Xiaba Rinpoche has grown in status over the years and has responsibility for the upkeep of a number of other temples. It seems that he is looking after Drashi and Drashi is looking after him, so there may be more enshrinements at the other locations connected to him.

Drashi Lhamo Goes To Washington, America

In 2025, a True Buddha School student offered a statue of Drashi Lhamo to His Holiness Living Buddha Lian Sheng (affectionately known simply as Grandmaster Lu or Shizun to his students). Inadvertently, she triggered the karma of lifetimes!

Drashi Lhamo herself then descended and appeared to him, recognising him as the reincarnation of the kind Lama who had tamed her almost exactly 3 centuries ago in China. Grandmaster agreed to transmit her dharma and right after that, the validation of it being authentic dharma poured right in as he and students alike immediately started to strike it rich!

Within a fortnight, two students each offered enough money to buy a luxury car, one requesting a private Sheng ji. Another student bought and offered him a Ferrari. This was a clear response from the heavens that the transmission of her dharma was auspicious.

At her interim transmission during a fire homa to Mahasri (Palden Lhamo), Grandmaster bestowed the empowerment to chant Drashi Lhamo’s mantra on attendees.

At this stage, no details of her practice were disclosed, just her mudra and mantra and the fact that she was very fond of baijiu, a type of very potent alcoholic liquor brewed from sorghum. Students began putting these core basics into diligent practice.

Not long after, a student from Australia won the lottery jackpot… twice!

Another student from Malaysia who was a regular volunteer in the temple canteen won the jackpot.

Drashi Lhamo's First Major Mass Transmission

At True Buddha School’s Fall Grand Ceremony 2025, Seattle’s Meydenbauer Centre was filled to capacity with students from around the world who eagerly awaited her dharma transmission. Grandmaster bestowed her empowerment and taught the key pith formula for obtaining results in her practice.

Drashi Lhamo Is Here To Stay

After the Grand Ceremony, Drashi Lhamo asked to become the spirit wife of Grandmaster and so it was agreed to build her a chapel of her own on the grounds of the existing Rainbow Temple in the Cascade Mountains just outside Seattle in Washington state. This is her first dedicated temple outside Asia andit is still under construction (donations towards this can be made here by selecting the option for Zashi Temple). With over ten people having struck it rich within six months of her first appearing to Grandmaster when the statue was gifted, it has clearly demonstrated her great efficacy.

Struck it rich here means a significant amount – two US students both offered enough to buy a Ferrari SUV, which had a base price of US$400,000 at the time, but more typically cost from $700,000 on the road. The student from Taiwan offered NT$300,000 as thanks for his windfall. The exact figures of how much these people received in sudden luck is not disclosed, but since they were able to give such significant donations, it is understood to be not a minor or trivial amount.

Subsequently, many students continued to report sudden windfalls. A monk from Thailand, a master from Indonesia, a student from Taiwan. A family from Singapore who were looking to buy a home found their seller suddenly dropped the price by SG$160,000! One lady in Lhasa won RMB 3 million!

Grandmaster specifically asked students to stop sending him monetary offerings. He had already been giving these to the Sheng-Yen Lu Foundation, a non-profit specialising in disaster relief, but because it costs a lot to transfer money to the US, and because visibility of local problems isn’t always possible for the non-profit, Grandmaster asked that students donate directly to local disaster relief charities rather than him. Merely sending in the receipt for their charitable donations would be payment enough.
